Whew! You've completed cleaning your kitchen, and even the sink is sparkling. The cleaning products have been put in the cupboard, and you're heading toward the sink to wash the dishes you found in your playroom. What's the smell?
A reeking sink can occur, even from the cleanest kitchens. The water that is left in the sink's trap beneath the sink can often allow mold and mildew to flourish.
In the beginning, we're going to assume that you've not used any commercial drain cleaners in your bathroom sink. These products can sometimes interact with different ingredients, which is why we don't wish to see that occur.
Make sure you pour 1/2 cup of baking soda into the sink. If your funnel is a good one, it's great. If not, try to be extra cautious to ensure that it gets to the way you'd like it to. Pour 1 cup of white vinegar just behind it and wait to see if it reacts immediately. Take about 15 minutes to wait until the froth has dissolved. Then run hot water through the drain for approximately one minute.
The combination of the two ingredients creates an organic compound that will hopefully rid the pipes of unpleasant smells. If you suspect that your issue is still residing in the drain trap, contact us. We are passionate about tackling drain smell issues!
