Anyone with full-length hair has probably experienced a slow or blocked drain at one time or another. Although drain stoppers work well at slowing hair from getting into the drain, it is not uncommon for a blockage to occur.
There are three options to remove hair from your drains. If you are experiencing stubborn clogs, a plumber may be able to help.
1. Buy or make your own snaking tools
If you don't have the right tools, makeshift or store-bought drain snaking tools can be a great option to unclog your toilet or sink. You can make your own homemade snaking device by using a wire hook. To remove clogs from your drain, all you have to do to make it is to straighten the hanger. A Zip-it tool is another option. You can also flush your drain with hot, boiling water after you've cleaned your drain.
2. Use vinegar and baking soda
Although we're not scientists, we know that vinegar and baking soda can create a chemical reaction that clears simple clogs. Pour some water into your drain and add baking soda and vinegar. Allow to sit for five minutes, and then pour boiling hot water down your sink.
3. Plunge away
If the hairball will not go down the drain, push it through the trap. Grab your trusty plunger and get to work. Use a flat or cup plunger to flush the drain.
Sometimes, even the best tools in the store won't solve your clogging issue. Clogging tubs or sinks could indicate a bigger issue. It may cost more to fix the problem than it costs to have it fixed by a professional. Calling a professional plumber is the best way to ensure that the problem gets fixed.
